Coffs Harbour
[ Travel Destinations ]

Coffs Harbour is a bustling and busy seaside holiday city which has grown from a small country town into a mecca for holiday makers and sea changers alike. The city is surrounded by the natural beauty of the sub-tropical rainforests, pristine marine reserves, white sandy beaches and visitors to the city are well catered for with a wide range of fun holiday activities for the whole family. If you are in search of a destination for your campervan hire Australia holiday then Coffs Harbour is a great choice.

Coffs Harbour is a coastal city located in northern New South Wales, almost half way between our campervan rental Sydney branch and our campervan rental Brisbane branch. The city serves as the major regional centre for a stretch of coast commonly referred to by locals as the "Coffs Coast". It encompasses a stretch of coastline starting in the north from Woolgoola and Coffs Harbour south to Nambucca and Scotts Head and west to the town of Bellingen and beyond to the Dorrigo National Park.

The scenic coastal roads and hinterland towns and villages of Coffs Coast make ideal touring routes. The smooth bitumen of the Pacific Highway is specially designed for ease of travel however if you never leave the highway you will miss most of the beautiful places. There are numerous quiet, secluded bays and beaches tucked away which reward the curious traveller. There are also numerous shady picnic areas nestled deep in the pristine rainforest of the hinterland. The sleepy country villages dotted throughout the hinterland provide the ideal location to stock up on supplies before immersing yourself in the glorious rainforest draped mountains. Travelling in one of our campervan rentals you will have the freedom to stay overnight in any of the caravan parks along the way.

Route 1 -- Northern Forests

Head north from Coffs Harbour to Moonee Beach Nature Reserve then turn inland on the Nana Glen Road through forests and past farmland. Continue on to the town of Glenreagh, then follow the Orara River back through the country towns of Cormba and Karangi to reach the coast again at Coffs. Bring a packed picnic lunch or stop off at a rest area and have a barbeque in the comfort of your very own campervan rental vehicle. Your options are wide open and limited only by your imagination.

Route 2 -- Southern Beaches

This route covers the beaches and seaside towns of Sawtell, Mylestom, Urunga, Valla Beach, Nambucca Heads and Scotts Head. Sawtell is located just south of Coffs Harbour and is the starting point of this driving route. This route follows the Pacific Highway south and provides easy access to the turn offs to the smaller roads between the highway and the ocean. It also makes it easy to return to the highway in order to visit the next town along the coast.

This route will give you the opportunity to see the magnificent bays and beaches, headlands and rivers, parks and picnic areas, lookout points and boardwalks. There are several fantastic fishing spots along the coast where you can try your luck. If you get lucky and catch a fish why not make use of your campervan rental kitchen facilities? It's easy to prepare a delicious meal on the spot and nothing is more quintessentially Australian than freshly caught fish.

Route 3 -- World Heritage Route

This route takes you south from Coffs Harbour, over the calm waters of the Bellingen River, then inland to the town of Bellingen. Here you will find wide tree lined streets with numerous galleries and old world style shop fronts. Stop in town for a rest and some refreshments before heading off again to explore the rainforest on the edge of the Tableland. Stop at the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre and take a stroll along the remarkable Skywalk which allows you to walk on top of the rainforest canopy. Bring a packed lunch and make a day of it, or better yet why not have a barbeque? Your campervan rental provides the ideal way to cater for your whole family without the mess and bother of using public facilities.

Route 4 -- The Waterfall Route

This route will allow you to discover the New England Tableland. Starting at Coffs Harbour this route takes you south west to the fun and funky country town of Bellingen. You can stop at this town for refreshments before continuing on to Dorrigo. Along the way stop at the first of the waterfalls, the Newell and Sherrard Falls waterfall before visiting the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre.

From Dorrigo there are two choices. The long route will pass the Ebor Falls and Cathedral Rock. The shorter route passes the Dangar Falls before passing through the dense forest of the Cascade National park. Take a detour from Cascade along the Nymboida river which is a popular world class white water rafting spot.
