Coffs Harbour
[ Travel Destinations ]

The seaside city of Coffs Harbour is the major regional centre for the stretch of coast commonly referred to by locals as the "Coffs Coast". It encompasses a vast stretch of coastline starting in the north from Woolgoola and Coffs Harbour south to Nambucca and Scotts Head and west to the town of Bellingen and beyond to the Dorrigo National Park.

Within this region you will find a range of fun outdoor activities which celebrate and highlight the local natural beauty. From bushwalking and four-wheel driving through the lush sub-tropical rainforests to fishing, diving, swimming, surfing or whale watching on the pristine waters of the Pacific Ocean, you will find the Coffs Coast is a lovely location for a seaside holiday. If you find yourself on a driving holiday in one of our car rentals we strongly recommend you stop and take a look around.

The city of Coffs Harbour is located on the northern New South Wales coastline, almost half way between our car rental Sydney branch and our car hire Brisbane branch. The beaches are a major draw card for region and visitors are spoilt for choice. North of Coffs lies a string of gorgeous sandy beaches. Sapphire Beach, 9km north, has an environment centre with a café where visitors can sit and relax with an icy cold drink while overlooking the beaches. Moonee Beach Reserve, 3km further north, is set amongst natural bush surroundings with a creek that provides safe swimming conditions most of the time. Swimmers should be aware of the strong currents around the mouth of the river. Moonee Beach Reserve provides shady picnic tables and public use barbecues making it an ideal spot for a picnic. The area also has a caravan park, a small convenience store and a fish and chips shop. Emerald Beach, 8km further north, is a picturesque and relatively unspoilt stretch of coast that is popular with surfers.

Driving north along the Pacific Highway in your car rental vehicle you will come across the town of Woolgoolga. The large glistening white temple is evidence of the large Sikh population which have settled here since the early 1970s. These settlers have brought their own culture and cuisine along with them which has contributed to the towns diversity. Woolgoolga is also a popular seaside holiday town which offers excellent surfing beaches. Just north of town the calm waters of the Woolgoola Lake provide the perfect spot to go swimming or boating.

A short drive north of Woolgoolga in your car hire vehicle you will arrive at Corindi Beach which is home to the Yarrawarra Aboriginal Cultural Centre. This provides a focal point for the local Gumbaingirr people and is a great place to visit for anyone wishing to learn more about the culture and history of the Aboriginal people in the area. Here you will find an arts and crafts shop, a bush tucker cafe and a native bush-tucker medicine nursery with plants for sale. For a more immersive experience take a tour with one of the local guides and learn about bush tucker first hand from a local expert.
